Notes
There are two subspecies of selfheal in the Maryland piedmont, Prunella vulgaris ssp. vulgaris and Prunella vulgaris ssp. lanceolata. According to the USDA, the former was introduced from Eurasia and has become naturalized, while the latter is native. I believe, but am not sure, that subspecies shown above is lanceolata, and that the white-flowering form shown below is ssp. vulgaris.
