I’ve had a lot of fun the last few weeks shooting with the 70-200mm lens and the 105mm macro. A lot of pictures failed (that first lens is a beast if I’m shooting handheld in low light or a breeze), but I enjoy playing with light and shadows and I think I got some decent shots.
wild pinks (Silene caroliniana ssp. pensylvanica)
wild blue phlox (Phlox divaricata)
plantain-leaved pussytoes (Antennaria plantaginifolia)
early meadow rue (Thalictrum dioicum), staminate flowers
smooth rockcress (Boechera laevigata, formerly Arabis laevigata)
early saxifrage (Micranthes virginiensis, formerly Saxifraga virginiensis)
azure bluets (Houstonia caerulea)
leatherwood (Dirca palustris)
lyre-leaved rockcress (Arabidopsis lyrata)
Beautiful shots! We’re heading down to the Smokies tomorrow, in search of wildflowers. I hope we’re not too late!
Thanks! Good luck, and take some pictures. 🙂
Are there mountain laurels there; and if so, when is their bloom?

Also you can look it up on this site: go to the top of the page, click on one of the two plant lists there, go to the name and click; will take you to a page with basic information.
Oh my! It is WHITE! When we grew them, we had only one white cultivar, and we did not grow many of them. They were unpopular. Although they seemed to be healthy here, their bloom was not on a tight schedule. They sometimes bloomed as early as February, and did not bloom profusely. They were more profuse if they bloomed all at once and later in the season. I have never seen them in the wild.
