Flower of the Day: Perfoliate Bellwort

Uvularia perfoliata; Liliaceae (lily family)

“Perfoliate” refers to the way the stem pierces the leaf.  This plant isn’t rare, but for some reason I never spotted it before.  It was one of three new-to-me plants found on a hike with the Maryland Native Plant Society.  Tomorrow: a globally rare plant that is abundant in the mid-Atlantic.
